MIKE BALL DIVE EXPEDITIONS

Departs from Cairns at 6:00pm every Thursday and returns at 8:00am on the following Thursday. Visits the prime Ribbon Reef sites in the Coral Sea. Aproximately 3 dive sites per day with unlimited dive time and 26 dives in total. All diving is north of Cooktown, and although this is a combination of the two trips, there is no repeat dive experience.


There is a maximum of 28 passengers and 12 crew, a spacious dining room, lounge and alfresco deck. Chef prepared meals, complimentary soft drinks and Australian wines with dinner. There is also a complimentary eco program offered. Prices range from $3147.

You can rent a Canon Powershot G10 on board for $40 per day, or a Canon Powershot G12 for $60 per day. Alternatively, you could rent a top-of-the-range 14.7 Megapixel Canon Powershot G10 from Cairns Unlimited digital underwater camera rental for just $155 for the entire trip. Other companies charge from $65 to $100 per day for this exact model of camera.

SPIRIT OF FREEDOM

The vessel departs Cairns at 12:00am Monday with a complimentry bus transfer at 11:00am, and returns on the following Monday at 7:30am. As well as diving and snorkelling also on offer is a chance to visit Lizard Island on the Thursday. Also included in price is ensuite bathrooms with daily service and chef prepared meals with wine.


Overall up to 26 dives are offered including night dives, also offered is a guided walk along Watson's bay. Prices range around $2775. For an extra $245 dive equipment is supplied throughout the trip.

Underwater cameras are available for hire on board this Cairns liveaboard at a cost of $65 per dive or $105 per day. This is for the top-of-the-range 14.7 Megapixel Canon Powershot G10. TAKA DIVE

This tour comprises of a combination of both the 4 day 3 night tour to the Cod Hole & Northern Great Barrier Reef as well as the 5 day 4 night tour to the Cod Hole & Osprey reef in the Coral Sea.

During the seven-day trip you will have the opportunity to experience 24 dives at some of the worlds most renowned dive sites. You will enjoy your seven days diving at the 'world famous' Cod Hole, pristine Osprey reef in the Coral Sea and the beautifully diverse Ribbon Reefs.

As the trip is a combination of two tours, you will return to Cairns for a short two hour interval before embarking upon the second leg of your tour.

Your tour will either depart on Friday and return the following Friday, or depart Tuesday and return the following Tuesday.

Prices start at $2560 for a bed in a four share dorm cabin, and range to $3550 for stateroom accommodation, with standard twin rooms at $2840 and ensuited twin/double cabins at $3145. Gear hire is $240 for the duration of the trip, and a $125 reef tax is additional on all prices.

DIGITAL UNDERWATER CAMERA RENTAL

Unless you have your own dive camera, you will need to rent a digital underwater camera from Cairns to capture your once in a lifetime experience of scuba diving the Cod Hole or swimming and snorkelling with Dwarf Minke Whales on the Ribbon Reefs.

Disposable underwater cameras offer poor results, and once the high cost of processing is included, are far more expensive per photograph than renting a top quality digital underwater camera. It is usually possible to rent a digital underwater camera on board the dive boat, but they can be expensive and are not always good quality.

The most economical option is to have your digital underwater camera delivered to you before your departure.
